Privacy Policy — Now We're Even

The short version: We don't store your bank details. We don't sell your data. Once everyone in a split confirms they've paid, we delete the data. We collect the minimum possible to make the app work.

1. Who We Are

Now We're Even ("we", "us", "our") is a free bill-splitting app available at nowwereeven.app. We are based in the United Kingdom.

2. What We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to operate the app:

Your display name — entered by you on first launch. Shown to people you split bills with.
Phone numbers — only if you choose to invite someone via WhatsApp or SMS. Used solely to send the invite message.
Bill and split data — item names, prices and amounts entered or scanned during a split session.
Anonymous user ID — a randomly generated ID used to identify your session. Not linked to your name, email or any personal account.
Receipt images — processed via Google Cloud Vision OCR to extract item data. Images are not stored by us after processing.

We do not collect: email addresses, passwords, bank details, payment information, location data, or device identifiers beyond what Firebase provides anonymously.

3. How We Use Your Data

To display your name to people you split bills with
To store split and group data so all participants can see it in real time
To send invite messages (WhatsApp/SMS) when you choose to invite someone
To calculate and display each person's share

We do not use your data for advertising profiling, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with third parties except as described in Section 5.

4. Data Deletion

Once all participants in a split confirm they have paid, the split data is automatically and permanently deleted from our servers. We do not retain financial history.

To request deletion of all your data at any time, contact us at hello@nowwereeven.app and we will action your request within 30 days.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the app:

Google Firebase (Firestore + Auth) — database and anonymous authentication. Servers located in London (Europe). Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Google Cloud Vision API — receipt OCR. Images are sent for processing and not retained. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Google AdMob — in-app advertising. AdMob may collect device identifiers for ad serving. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.
Expo / React Native — app framework. No personal data is sent to Expo servers during normal use.

6. Your Rights (UK GDPR)

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate data
Request deletion of your data
Object to processing of your data
Lodge a complaint with the ICO (ico.org.uk)

7. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
